Caca and Zachito were over last Sunday for dinner. It wasn't long before Erica said "let's organize your closet!" and I said "nooooooo." She proceeded up to my closet and to give me a few tips on how to control it. I have a lovely walk-in closet with plenty of space and I don't even have to share it with Tim, but it has always been a mess. My Fairy Organizer started spewing out tips "get a shoe holder and get all your shoes off the floor" "you need something better for your jewelry" "you need bins to put all that stuff in" "you need more matching baskets." She stopped her advice briefly when she noticed her wedding dress hanging in plastic "ohhh my wedding dress."
Tuesday I put down the mouse and the remote and headed off to Wal-Mart to find supplies to conquer my closet. If there is one thing I have learned about cleaning and organizing, it's the task is never as bad as you make it to be in your head. I did my closet in a couple of hours, and have been putting it off for 5 years.
First the before pictures:
Messy unmatched hangers with t-shirts, pillows, luggage and pajamas strewn all over my shelf.
The other side. Dusty garment bags, Halloween witch hat, heater, old blankets, dresses circa 1995, a corpse.
Messy jewelry shelf.
After: (got rid of 3 bags of clothes and shoes).
Shelf paper, organized clothes by color, (mostly) white hangers, shoes off floor, my luggage all on top shelf.
Shelves lined, new matching baskets, clear bins for bras and underwear, no jewelry to be seen.
I found this tie hanger hanging in a forgotten closet and thought it would be perfect to hang my necklaces. I'm a genius.
All blankets in one bin!
This is where a graveyard of dusty shoes once laid to rest.
I'm on a roll.

lol lol I sound like a lunatic when I read my own commentary.
LOVE the closet!! It looks fantastic. The necklace hanger was a verra good idea.
Who knew you had a HUGE laundry room and a HUGE closet?!!
I love before and afters! You've done a fab job.
I love helping my mama like that too. :-)
Wow. That closet is beautiful. Mine is so small that I MIGHT have enough room for about 25% of all of my clothes if I threw all of Justin's clothes in the garbage.
Good job with the organizing, caca.
Your closet wasn't really that bad to begin with...now mine, on the other hand....
It looks marvelous. Erica is a wizardess of organization.
Lol. I have to say, when I read the first post on "organization" I thought to myself, "What does Michelle Hampton have on earth that she needs to organize". But I found that you're just like one of us! With that being said most of your "before" photos look like my "afters".
Your closet looks AMAZING! Everything is where it belongs!
